Cultre Redding | An Experiment
In mid-2016 our Founder, Alex Anderson, was discouraged by the amount of negativity that surrounded our city’s ‘brand’ online. News Agencies, Town Leaders, and concerned citizens continually posting about the more unappealing traits of our city motivated him into action. As a native of Pennsylvania, Alex had a different lens when he looked out on the city. He saw beauty in our mountain ranges, lakes, and trails. He saw hope in the eyes of young entrepreneurs trying to be the next Spotify. He saw a city on the tipping point of revitalization. So he set out to change the narrative. Without a team, or really any experience in social media, he started an Instagram page with the handle @realredding. The motive of the page was to call upon local photographers to submit their most impressive pictures of our area. He felt that if everyone was able to appreciate the natural beauty of where we live, for at least a second every day, he could shift the undeserved facade that rested on our city. We want to take this moment to thank each and every one of you who has ever submitted a photo or hash-tagged #realredding or #cultreredding, we couldn’t have done it without you.
Along the way, Alex started a marketing company with a few partners named Cultre Creative Marketing. They operate in Redding, SF, and have clients across the country. Yet, Redding has remained a focal point, and Alex never lost his passion for seeing Redding lifted up in a positive light. Eventually, Alex decided to affiliate the two projects with one another to maintain conformity and eventually be able to start a news syndicate of his own that would serve the same purpose of our original Instagram Page. We’re proud to shed light on all of the positive aspects of our city and look forward to serving the people of Redding with what we call “Common Ground’ news, aimed to inform and not separate.
